This morning started out on a fast note. At 8:30 I got a call from Les that they were at the room to take Macey to the OR. The anesthesiologist yesterday told us she was the second case and it would be close to 11 am before they needed her.
I ran up the hill from the Inn and arrived in time to see the orderlies with the stretcher outside the door. The resident was there also. I mentioned to them that the prep wasn't complete but they said surely it must be since she drank the whole gallon of prep. Ha, little do they know. So we proceeded on to the OR. Once there they took her straight into the OR because of the MRSA status. The GI came out eventually to have us sign consents and then they started. Sometime around 9:15. Almost 2 hours later the Fellow came out to talk to us. The EGD showed a nodule in the distal esophagus, a tortuous esophagus and erosion in her stomach. The colonoscopy was a limited exam and they could only reach the ascending colon due to the prep being incomplete. They will be following up with the staff about why the orders weren't carried out to do an enema if the prep didn't make it to clear.
Back from surgery Macey passed a good amount of air and cleared out finally. She was able to eat chicken fingers and fries for lunch. The dietician came by to go over what her diet generally entails back at home. She talked to Macey about the last 2 years and the weight loss and changes in how she ate. The next test is a collection for alpha 1 antitrypsin. The amount in her stool tells us the amount of inflammation in her body. A1A is produced by the body to fight inflammation. The rest of Tuesday involved watching TV and playing on the internet. Not much happening.
